A
white christmas is a good thing, but it leads to extra work.
To clear the private road of snow takes time when the road is
more than 400 yards long - even with an effective tractor and
snow blower.

It
seems that we will have a white christmas this year too. The
snow started to fall last monday. At first just some snowflakes,
but soon the landscape was totally covered by snow.

The
calf at the picture was born this morning. Only six hours later,
the calf is jumping around. And the heifers in the background
are wondering what kind of animal this could be.

Helén
and Sveinung came back to Elgsnes today, and Roy is there-by
reunited with his family. The increase in population at Elgsnes
is suddenly 67 % (!). But with just five inhabitants, the area
is not over-crowded yet.

This
is not the midnight sun, but even the moonlight can be reflected
from the water. A tripod was used when the picture was taken,
because the light is so weak at this time of the year.

This
is how November can be here at Elgsnes: One week ago winter
and snow, today 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Almost all the snow has
melted away and the grass is still green.

At
the beginning of the polar night, when the sun is under the
horizon day and night, this is what the sky looks like in the
middle of the day.

The
landscape is all white, but in the twilight everything looks
blue. We are wondering if this is the winther or just a warning
that makes us prepare for the real one.

One
more day with stormy weather. Not easy to travel at land or
sea. Nevertheless, the enormous power in strong wind is really
impressing.
